Game Launcher 1.0.1.15

Game Launcher is a configurable 10 button application launcher. It allows for applications to be launched from any location with control over how the application is started. The application allows for arguments to be passed to the application as well as the ability to control how the application window is launched (Maximied, Minimized, Normal). I wrote this to launch games but it can handle any application executables.

This application should work fine on removable devices like thumbdrives, as long as the PC has .net on it. I have not done any testing on removable media, however just make sure you use relative 'Target's. For example instead of using X:\apps\pidgin\pidgin.exe use \apps\pidgin.exe.

Install EWF on Windows XP

Attachment Attachment: EWF Files Filesize: 170 KB
File: http://www.thevod.org/applications/ewfadmin/ewffiles.rar

Requirements

- Windows XP based operating system.
- Administrative rights to install and run ewf.

EWF is a component of XPe (XP Embedded), but it can be manually installed on Windows XP.

     1. Extract the attached file to a known location on your PC.
     2. Copy ewf.sys to the %systemroot%\system32\drivers\ directory.
     3. Copy ewfmgr.exe to the %systemroot\%system32\ directory.
     4. Copy and rename ewfntldr to the %systemroot% directory (rename it to ntldr). It will ask you to overwrite the                existing file. I would recommend backing up the original before doing this.
     5. Open regedit.exe and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root.
     6. Right-click on Root and click ‘Permissions’. Set ‘Everyone’ to have Full Control.
     7. Edit EWFreg.reg by right-clicking on it and selecting 'Edit'.
     8. Edit ArcName (very last line of the file) and change it to your configuration.
     9. Once you have edited the EWFreg.reg merge it by double clicking on it.

If you do not know what your ArcName should be, you can check your boot.ini file for this information. Also if you wish you can change back the registry permissions you changed in step 5, just make sure to disable EWF before you do, or the changes will be lost when you restart.

MouseWarp! 1.00.000

I have released a new application called MouseWarp! This is the first version and a proof-of-concept really. It is stable, but it does not have full support for all configurations.

This application stops the mouse cursor from becoming stuck when you are using multiple monitors with different resolutions. Typically if one of your displays has a higher vertical resolution than the other(s), the mouse will sometimes get stuck moving back and forth between them.

theVOD.org

This version has a working GUI and System Tray icon.

theVOD.org

This will be the core of a fully featured application that supports warping from the left and right hand sides of the primary display; as well as warping from the primary to secondary and secondary to primary. Currently warping only occurs going from the secondary to primary display (with the secondary display on the right of the primary).

Requirements

- .NET Framework (3.5 Recommended, may not work with older versions)
- Windows 7 32/64 bit Operating System (un-tested on XP, but will probably work fine).

Features 1.00.000

+ Show current pointer location
+ Enable or Disable MouseWarp! on the fly.
+ Automatically detect the current Primary Display's resolution.
+ Allow the user to customize the detected resolution (not recommended).
+ Configurable refresh rate.
+ User customizable System Tray icon.
+ Warp your mouse to the closest corner when using a larger secondary display on the right side of the primary.

Next Version

+ Warping from primary to secondary.
+ Warping with a secondary monitor on the left of the primary.
+ Saving settings in a portable ini file.

Known Issues / Bugs

- No known bugs.

I have started working on a new application called MouseWarp! which is specifically designed to fix the annoying issue I have with Multiple monitor setups that are running different resolutions.

Currently if you have different resolutions your mouse can become stuck moving between monitors (usually when one resolution is much greater than the other on the vertical side). I have successfully written an application to fix this issue, however before I release it I have to smooth it out a little.

I will more than likely release the source code only for this application. I have not decided yet.

It is less than 100 lines of code the way it is now!
Broadcom Crystal HD Decoder (BCM70012)

Edit 01/02/10 - Broadcom has released a newer version of the BCM70012 driver.

Crystal HD Driver Page

This new driver supports Linux also, which could be very good for Ubuntu netbook users. Also Adobe has released Flash Player 10.1 Beta 2. Here are some differences / improvements I have noticed running this new combo of drivers and software.

1. Windows Media Player (on Windows 7 at least) can now play back H.264 mkv files and properly render the audio and video while taking advantage of the Crystal HD Decoder (BCM70012).

2. Flash videos (at least on YouTube) play awesome. I can now play back 1080P YouTube videos smootly. With CPU staying at about 70-80%.

I am running Flash 10.1 Beta 2 and Broadcoms Crystal HD Decoder Driver version 3.1.0

08/27/2009

There is limited information about the Crystal HD Broadcom cards and Dell Mini 9s. I have purchased the card and have tested it with several HD clips and Applications.

The card works in the Dell Mini 9's WIFI PCIe slot. It currently has Windows 7 / Vista, and Windows XP drivers available from HP.

Windows XP / Vista / 7 Drivers.

The applications I tested where:

Windows Media Player 12.0.7600.16385 (Windows 7 RTM) - It is only able to accelerate wmv extension files with Direct X Video Acceleration. This doesn't really help us with videos that are in H.264.

Media Player Classic Home Theater Edition 1.2.908.0 - MPC HTE was able to take advantage of the video acceleration, however some clips have very bad audio sync issues. Also the CPU usage was at about 50%-60% which allowed the video to play smoothly but still dropped a few frames on 1080P files with certain audio schemes. Most of the clips were watchable, however I do not think that MPC HTE fully supports the broadcom card, or at least some of features. Some clips had very bad Audio sync issues.

Arcsoft TotalMedia Theater 2.1.19.128 w/ Hardware Acceleration Support - This is a special version made for HP, which works on non HP based machines. I have installed it on Windows XP and Windows 7. Win 7 gave me a compatability warning, however I elected to still use the application and I have had zero problems (for the record I have UAC off). Anyway TMT ran perfectly, all test clips played flawlessly at about 10%-15% cpu usage w/ no audio sync issues. I also had no issues with switching to fullscreen, and or multitasking with a HD movie playing.

Arcsoft TotalMedia Theater - no key or licence required.

Broadcom and Adobe have teamed up to add BCM70012 support to the next release of the Flash Player, which will allow awesome streaming playback online too.

Updated version number 1.2 Build (01.02.019.release.x86.win)

Requirements

- .NET Framework (3.5 Recommended, may not work with older versions)
- Windows XPe or Windows XP with EWF installed
- Administrative rights

New Features 1.2.019

+ Fixed button bug listed below under 1.2 known issues
+ Changed behavior of TrayIcon over hover when EWF is disabled
+ Disabled CMD Window when commit occurs (still not in ini file)
+ Minor bug fixes

Known Issues / Bugs (1.2.019)

- There may be a bug related to changing the automated overlay size, when the refresh rate is set lower than the default value. The application will say EWF is not installed. Reloading the app should fix this, if not you can manually change the cache size in the ini file.

EWF Administrator 1.2

I have updated EWF Administrator to version 1.2 Build (01.02.013.release.x86.win). I am currently running it with no issues.

theVOD.org

This new version supports the use of protected drive letters other than C:>. To change the drive letter, edit the last entry in the config.ini file.

This new version has a less cluttered, better layout. As you may have noticed I have removed the HORM portion of the application for now (It was not implemented yet anyway).

I have also added more options to the Tray Icon Menu, which better reflects what you can do in the main application.

theVOD.org

I have also enabled the CMD window for when the overlay is committed. In the next build it will be optional in the ini file. I enabled this for Diagnostic purposes, and then started to like it.

The next minor build will have a new and improved tray icon. I am also toying with a better way to notify the user that EWF is enabled/disabled.

Requirements

- .NET Framework (3.5 Recommended, may not work with older versions)
- Windows XPe or Windows XP with EWF installed
- Administrative rights

New Features 1.2.013

+ New GUI layout.
+ Change Protected Volume (edit last line of config.ini)
+ Bug Fixes
+ New tray icon right click commands
+ Minor bug fixes

Known Issues / Bugs

- The Commit button (without the Live commit check box) does not properly clear the Enable / Disable status buttons. You have to "Clear" the current command before you can properly set your desired state.

Extracted size is less than 75 KB, Memory Use typically less than 5 MB (2.5 MB Minimized to tray), and CPU usage typically less than 1 % CPU time.

I have released the initial version of EWF GUI Administrator.

EWF - is a cache based write filter present in Windows Embedded operating systems. It works at a sector level and redirects all writes to RAM. This is particulary useful for several reasons.

1) It allows users to control how changes are made to their computers.
2) It prolongs the life of SSD and other flash based drives (if changes are not commited).
3) It stops SSDs that suffer from slow random writes from shuttering.

It is important to note that EWF's cache can not grow over 512 MB or the system will crash. This is a limitation of the EWF driver and can not easily be overcome. This is where the GUI Administrator comes into play. It can notify you when your EWF cache reaches your predefined limit. It can also automatically take an action when the cache is full.

theVOD.org
Main application window.

theVOD.org
User customizable tray icon(s).

theVOD.org
Tray notification when the limit is reached.

Requirements

- .NET Framework (3.5 Recommended, may not work with older versions)
- Windows XPe or Windows XP with EWF installed
- Administrative rights

Current Features 1.0.0

+ Enable the EWF system upon next reboot.
+ Disable the EWF system upon next reboot.
+ Commit overlay and disable EWF (without restart).
+ Set the EWF cache to be applied the next time the computer is restarted.
+ Clear the current EWF command set to be executed at the next reboot.
+ Automatically commit and restart when overlay has reached its limit.
+ Automatically commit and disable EWF when overlay has reached its limit.
+ Display a tray notification when user limit is reached (this is also the limit for the automated actions to be executed).
+ Start application minimized to the tray.
+ User customizable tray icon(s).

Known Issues / Bugs
- The about screen is blank.
